Model introduction
One of the most widely referenced magic mushroom dosage calculators online is found on a forum (Shroomery.org). Its creator openly explains their model was developed by adjusting a formula until the results appeared accurate, incorporating several variables while allowing users to further customize the calculation with an emphasis on mushroom genetics.
After finding established sources referencing this calculator or developed models based on similar methodology, we recognized there was no available dosage calculator designed around real-world guided therapy data. Clinical research provides valuable information, but studies typically involve small groups under highly controlled conditions that do not reflect how people also use mushrooms for recreation and exploration.
Mood Healers developed a calculator by expanding the methodology behind our existing microdose calculator to accommodate the entire range of dosage experiences and intentions. Our model considers desired experience and personal factors that most influence the recommendation, providing an estimate we consider to be the most accurate.
If you would like help adjusting your results based on personal factors not included in our model that you feel may influence the estimate, contact us for complimentary guidance. We enjoy helping people better understand their experiences and each assessment provides additional feedback that helps refine our dosage model over time.
How the calculator works
This magic mushroom dosage calculator combines your desired experience with a small number of personal factors to estimate an appropriate dosage. Rather than rely on a single standard dose, our algorithm begins with the intensity you select and progressively adjusts the estimate using weight, age, sex, medication (if any) and intention.
Dosage decision map
The calculator follows a sequence. Desired intensity establishes a base dosage, personal information adjusts that starting point and your intention is applied last to produce the final recommendation.
The calculator is designed to provide a practical starting estimate rather than predict an exact psychedelic response. Individual sensitivity, mushroom potency and environmental conditions vary, so two people receiving the same recommendation may experience different effects.
Our model only focuses on factors that most significantly impact dosage calculation accuracy. The algorithm assumes the user is in a normal physical state (e.g. not ill, under the influence, etc.), normally hydrated and has eaten normally during the day.
What the model does not calculate
Our model does not adjust dosage for other health factors such as fasting, hydration, current mood, alcohol, cannabis & nicotine use or other temporary states. These variables do influence an experience with magic mushrooms, but including them without reliable calibration compromises the recommended output. Many substances, even caffeine or sugar, and psychedelic mushrooms have a greater effect on an empty stomach. Hydration is important because water improves psilocybin uptake in the body. Your perceived experience will be affected if severely angry or stressed. Lastly, drinking or smoking along with consuming magic mushrooms may introduce unpredictable results including unwanted reactions such as nausea, dizziness or drowsiness.
1. Desired intensity establishes the base dosage
Personal factors do not determine the initial dose. Instead, they adjust the base dosage associated with user input. Desired intensity is the primary starting variable in the model. Each of the five experience levels begins with a base dosage established using our genetics. If you are using this tool with magic mushrooms from another source, potency (psilocybin content) becomes a significant variable. However, the calculator still provides a useful reference when differences in potency are considered. If you are unsure, contact us and a team member can assess visual cues to help determine the quality and strain of your mushrooms.
After establishing the base dosage, the calculator evaluates four personal factors: weight, age, sex and medication. Each personal adjustment is scaled according to the selected intensity. This prevents the same fixed adjustment from being applied to both very small and much larger base dosages.
Maximum dosage adjustment by experience level
LEVEL 1 Base 150 mg Factor Max 150 mg
LEVEL 2 Base 750 mg Factor Max 188 mg
LEVEL 3 Base 1.5 g Factor Max 375 mg
LEVEL 4 Base 3.0 g Factor Max 500 mg
LEVEL 5 Base 5.0 g Factor Max 750 mg
“Factor Max” is the maximum amount each individual personal factor can contribute at the selected intensity. It is not automatically added to every calculation.
How Factor Max is determined
Each experience level has a base dosage and an upper dosage boundary. The difference between these values establishes the total adjustment range available to weight, age, sex and medication. In the current model, these four variables are given equal maximum weighting, meaning each can contribute up to one-quarter of the available adjustment range.
Factor Max =
(Upper Dosage Boundary - Base Dosage)
÷
4 Adjustment Variables
Equal weighting is a model assumption. It establishes the same maximum adjustment ceiling for each variable, but does not mean weight, age, sex and medication automatically contribute the same amount to an individual recommendation. The calculated adjustment depends on the user's input for each variable.
Example: Level 3 — Altered Senses
Base Dosage 1.500 g
Upper Dosage Boundary 3.000 g
-------
Adjustment Range 1.500 g
1.500 g ÷ 4 Variables = 0.375 g
FACTOR MAX = 375 mg
Weight Maximum +375 mg
Age Maximum +375 mg
Sex Maximum +375 mg
Medication Maximum +375 mg
If all four variables reach maximum adjustment at Level 3, the combined 1.5 g adjustment would increase the 1.5 g base dosage to the 3.0 g upper boundary before the Intention modifier is applied.
Weight range
Weight is calculated across a range of 90 to 300 pounds. Those heavier do not require a higher dosage. The number 210 represents the total span of that range and is used to determine where the user's weight falls between the minimum and maximum.

3. Weight adjustment
Weight is calculated continuously using linear interpolation rather than placing users into broad categories. Our model uses a working range of 90 to 300 pounds. At 90 pounds or below, the weight contribution is zero. At 300 pounds or above, the full weight contribution available for the selected intensity is applied. Weight entered in kilograms is converted to pounds internally before the equation is applied.

4. Age adjustment
For simplicity, age uses a graduated curve rather than a linear equation. Each age range receives a percentage of the maximum dosage contribution available at the selected intensity. The largest adjustment is assigned to ages 30–45, with progressively smaller adjustments outside that range. These adjustments were developed using data collected from supervised guided therapy sessions.

AGE 21–24 25%
AGE 25–29 40%

5. Sex adjustment
Sex is treated as a fixed modifier within the current model. Female is the baseline and produces no additional numerical adjustment. Male applies the full sex contribution available at the selected intensity. The application of this modifier might appear substantial, but our patient data reveals a common trend that males respond better to higher dosages.
Sex factor
FEMALE 0% × Factor Maximum
MALE 100% × Factor Maximum
6. Medication adjustment
Medication is handled differently from the other personal factors. Antidepressants receive a numerical adjustment within the model because many SSRIs reduce perceived psychedelic effects. The model assigns antidepressants 100% of available Factor Maximum adjustment. Other medication categories do not change the dosage estimate. Instead, they trigger caution messages when appropriate.

ANXIETY MEDICATION 0%

At Level 3 — Altered Senses, antidepressants add the full 375 mg Factor Maximum. However, a zero numerical adjustment does not mean an interaction is considered risk-free. Medication safety guidance is handled separately from the dosage calculation.
7. Personalized subtotal
Once the four personal factors have been evaluated, they are combined with the base dosage. This produces the personalized subtotal. Intention has not yet been applied at this stage.
Personalized dosage equation
Personalized Subtotal =

8. Cumulative rounding
The underlying calculations produce values that are unnecessarily precise for practical mushroom dosage recommendations. Calculations are therefore resolved in 50 mg increments. Our model uses cumulative rounding rather than independently rounding every calculation.
This distinction is important. Independently rounding several contributions can cause the displayed values to drift away from the actual subtotal. Cumulative rounding preserves the calculation while ensuring that every number shown in the dosage breakdown adds correctly.
9. Intention adjustment
Intention is selected first in the interface but applied last in the mathematical model. This allows the calculator to first establish a personalized dosage and then modify that amount according to user intent.
Intention modifiers
RECREATION -5%
HEALING 0%
EXPLORE +5%
Recreation produces a more conservative recommendation for social and active settings. Healing leaves the personalized subtotal unchanged. Explore increases the estimate for users intentionally seeking stronger psychedelic effects.
The final recommendation combines the personalized subtotal with the selected intention adjustment. The resulting recommendation is resolved to the nearest 25 mg so the displayed Intention adjustment and final dosage remain consistent.
Not every selection changes dosage. Personalized messages provide additional guidance rather than changing the recommendation. An Important Note section operates alongside the numerical model.
Guidance priority
When several messages apply, the calculator displays them in a consistent priority order.
Mushroom potency is not presented as a selection in our model. Psilocybin concentration varies significantly between strains, cultivation quality, consumption methods (raw mushrooms or capsules) and shelf life, making even simple options such as “mild” or “strong” difficult for most users to estimate reliably. The model is intended for use with our products or mushrooms from sources where you have firsthand knowledge of quality or confidence based on a trusted referral. More precise magic mushroom dosage recommendations are achieved by removing inputs that introduce too much unknown variance.

14. Why calculator asks fewer questions
A more complicated assessment does not automatically produce a better recommendation. During development of our magic mushroom dosage calculator, additional variables were considered, including mushroom experience, general health, current mood and other substance use (e.g. alcohol, marijuana, nicotine, etc.). These inputs were excluded from the algorithm because they add steps without providing enough reliable information to justify a numerical adjustment. Additional variables were not included simply to create the appearance of precision by assigning mathematical values to every possible influence.
15. Understanding the estimate
The recommended dosage should be interpreted as an estimate, not a guarantee of a particular experience. Psilocybin mushrooms are naturally variable and individual sensitivity differs substantially even among people with similar physical characteristics and health.
This overview is designed to make the reasoning behind the recommendation visible. Instead of presenting a single unexplained number, the model scope outlines how the base dosage, personal factors and intention contribute to a final estimate.
16. How this calculator differs
Online magic mushroom dosage calculators use many different methods to estimate dosage. Some rely primarily on mushroom-specific information such as strain type or ask users to estimate mushroom potency. These differences, along with any stated assumptions, substantially change dosage recommendations. Our model takes a different approach by limiting the assessment to variables that produce defined numerical adjustments.

17. Magic mushroom dosage FAQ
These frequently asked questions provide quick reference guidance for understanding how our magic mushroom dosage calculator works, how recommendations are calculated and how to interpret your results.
Mushroom strains can significantly influence the dosage effects, but accurately identifying potency is difficult for most users. Psilocybin concentration varies with genetics, cultivation quality, storage conditions and age, even among mushrooms identified as the same strain. Asking someone to select a strain or estimate potency introduces more uncertainty than added precision. Our model excludes this input and is intended for our products or mushrooms from a source with established quality.
Using the same Factor Maximum is an algorithm decision of the current model. Each experience level establishes a total range available for personalization, which is divided equally among weight, age, sex and medication. Equal weighting is intended to avoid overemphasizing any one factor, since all four were identified as important from a much larger group of variables evaluated for inclusion. Much of the calculator's precision comes from a model developed using years of data from personalized guided therapy clients. The final contribution is determined differently for each variable based on user input, with the resulting adjustment ranging from zero to the Factor Maximum.
If you have previous experience with magic mushrooms, the amount consumed and effects should be taken into consideration. The calculated dosage is only an estimate, not an amount required to take. Individual sensitivity produces different experiences even among people with the same user input. If the recommendation seems inconsistent with your previous experience, the calculation should not override your comfort.
Some selections are designed to produce no numerical dosage adjustment. A 0 mg result does not mean the information was ignored. It means that the selected response represents the baseline and does not receive an additional dosage adjustment within the current model. Selecting medication generates contextual guidance as an Important Note when the numerical contribution is zero.
Some inputs, such as weight, are calculated continuously and produce highly specific values. For example, an underlying calculation might produce an adjustment of +163.47 mg. Rather than presenting an unnecessary level of precision, adjustments are resolved to 50 mg increments. Therefore, recommendations progress in amounts such as 950 mg or 2.75 g, keeping the magic mushroom dosage calculator practical.
The model begins with a predetermined base dosage for each experience level and treats that amount as the starting point for personalization. Weight, age, sex and medication contribute between zero and the Factor Maximum rather than apply negative personal adjustments below the base dosage. One reduction does occur later through the recreation intention modifier, which decreases the personalized subtotal by 15%. This is a model design component intended to establish a conservative starting point for all users and reduce the risk of overwhelming effects.
The weight calculation uses a defined working range of 90 to 300 lb. A weight below 90 lb receives no additional weight adjustment, while a weight above 300 lb receives the maximum weight adjustment available for the selected experience level. Weights outside this range do not further influence the dosage calculation. This boundary prevents increasingly extreme body weights from producing disproportionate dosage adjustments and recognizes that other physical health factors may influence the calculator's accuracy beyond the model's intended use.
Underlying calculations produce values smaller than the increments displayed by the calculator. Personal adjustments are resolved cumulatively in 50 mg increments, so small changes in input can move the subtotal across a rounding threshold. When that occurs, the displayed recommendation changes by 50 mg even though the input change was small.
Many antidepressants, particularly SSRIs, reduce perceived psychedelic effects. The model assigns antidepressants the full medication Factor Maximum available at the selected experience level. Other medication categories do not receive a numerical dosage adjustment because potential interactions do not consistently indicate whether psilocybin effects diminish or heighten. Medication safety guidance is displayed separately in the Important Notes area.
The calculator expresses its recommendation as an amount of dried mushrooms or equivalent psilocybin content, such as capsules and chocolates. Magic mushroom gummies differ substantially in formulation and their labeled dosage does not typically represent an equivalent amount of dried mushrooms. Gummies require an extraction process that separates psilocybin from mushrooms to create a soluble solution that can be incorporated into a gummy mixture. Capsules, chocolates and gummies are better suited for microdosing and macrodosing. Larger doses will require consuming an excessive number of gummies or chocolates, while swallowing too many capsules may be uncomfortable for most people. Full doses and hero doses are easier to consume as dried mushrooms, which can be added to food to mask the taste and simplify consumption.
Results from different magic mushroom dosage calculators are not directly comparable because the models use different starting dosages, user inputs, mushroom potency assumptions and adjustment methods. Two calculators produce different recommendations from similar information because their algorithms differ. If you have previous experience with magic mushrooms, comparing recommendations with your own past experiences may help you evaluate which calculator provides the most useful estimate.
